Action Learning is a process that involves individuals coming together to tackle real and complex challenges while learning from the experience through questioning, reflecting and taking action. Action Learning has become a key training and problem-solving methodology for a wide range of organizations in the private, public and nonprofit sectors. Organizations use it for strategic planning, developing leaders, identifying competitive advantages, reducing operating costs and for creating high performing organizations. Action Learning is a process that naturally creates learning organizations. At the heart of the successful Action Learning experience is the Action Learning Coach who models the questioning, reflection, and coaching skills that increasingly will characterize successful leaders in the 21st century.
Six Elements of Action Learning
- A complex problem, challenge, opportunity, issue, project or task
- A group of four to eight individuals to work on the issue
- A process of insightful questions and reflective listening
- The power of the group to take action on the issue
- A commitment to individual, group and organizational learning
- An Action Learning coach to focus the group on the process and the learning
